Written in 1957, this rendition of Little Drummer Boy was recorded on September 11, 1977 for Bing Crosby’s television special, “Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas.” The singers talked about what they do for Christmas before singing what Bowie says is his son’s favorite Christmas song. The counterpoint melody and lyrics for “Peace on Earth” were added to the song especially for this recording.

Crosby died on October 14, just one month after recording this special which aired in the U.S. on CBS November 30, 1977. David Bowie died on January 10 of this this year.
