Wisdom—A Mattter of Give and Take

Jeffrey Bruno/Aleteia

Third, the saints provide us with countless examples of how faithful and good God is, that he knows what is truly best for us, and only gives his children the very best. The life and teachings of Bl. Mother Teresa are a shining example of childlike love and abandonment to God: “God gives me everything I want because I want what he gives me,” she remarked. She also advised: “Give everything he takes from you, and take everything he gives you, with a big smile.”

Are you still holding on to any petty little plans? May God give us all the strength to let go of them so that we may belong more and more to him, and so that he can give himself more completely to us as well.

As Benedict XVI said at the beginning of his Pontificate:

"If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed. Only in this friendship do we experience beauty and liberation. And so, today, with great strength and great conviction, on the basis of long personal experience of life, I say to you, dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ—and you will find true life."
