Why are they targeting home schoolers? They’re doing this because Adam Lanza, the shooter in the Sandy Hook incident, was home schooled for a short time. A short time. In fact, Lanza spent most of his educational career in the public school system. Yet, the commission wants to pin the incident on home schooling. What’s more, the brief stint of homeschooling (in his high school years) was apparently to boost his academic progress.
What the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission is proposing is simply preposterous.
My heart goes out to the Connecticut parents who home school their children. This is exactly the type of over-the-bounds interference in my family that prompted me to home school. While there still are some fantastic schools and fantastic school districts left in this country, there are many that are dangerously off base. When folks begin to realize that, the stigma on home schooling will disappear.
