Biblical scholar says marriage is not a “rule,” but the signpost to a much larger reality. In this short talk, Rev. N.T.. Wright, professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, presents the framework for understanding the creation of male and female. He sums up salvation history from Genesis through the New Testament pointing out that God’s end game is the unity of heaven and earth and everything until then points to that. Marriage between a man and woman is the signpost that lights the way. Rather than a set of rules, the Bible prescribes a cure to the separation of God’s creation. Marriage is not simply a Biblical rule, but a sign of the meaning of God’s creation and His purpose for it.
