ROME — The Pope and the Roman Church each year begin Lent with a procession which commences at the Benedictine Basilica of St. Anselmo and moves toward the Dominican Basilica of St. Sabina on the Aventine Hill. There the Pope offers Holy Mass and celebrates the rite of the sprinkling of ashes.

In this video, join Pope Francis as today he receives and distributes ashes, the liturgical symbol which tells every Christian: “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return”.
