Vatican releases official itinerary of papal visit to the United States

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican has released the official itinerary of Pope Francis’ apostolic visit to the United States of America for the 8th World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia this September.

The highlights of Pope’s packed 6-day schedule (September 22-27) also include the canonization of Blessed Junipero Serra; an official address to a joint session of the US Congress and the United Nations General Assembly; an event on religious liberty at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall; and meetings with the homeless, prisoners, and immigrants.

Prior to his arrival in the United States, Pope Francis will also visit Cuba. His three-day visit to the island nation is particularly significant in light of the key role the Vatican played in restoring diplomatic ties between the US and Cuba earlier this year.
