Aleteia - published on 09/24/15

Haj tragedy has claimed more than 700 lives

Before delivering his remarks to clergy and religious gathered for Vespers at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, Pope Francis offered greetings and condolences to the Muslim people for the tragedy at Mecca which claimed 717 lives of Haj pilgrims, and caused over 800 injuries.

“Two thoughts today to my Islamic brothers and sisters. First my greeting to be held today the Day of Sacrifice . I wish my warmest greeting outside . My second feeling is close to the tragedy that his people have suffered today in Mecca. In this moment of prayer I join you and we join in prayer to God Almighty and merciful Father. “
