“Our Lord and God we hung upon a tree. He shed his blood to set the captives free.”

Everybody knows the Australian worship band Hillsong, but you might not have heard of the other Australian worship band, Emmanuel Worship, a Catholic group out of Brisbane.

Emmanuel means “God is with us.” And that’s their mission: to bring people to know and experience the presence of God through their music. It’s simple but powerful.

The video for the song “God is here” captures the mission of Emmanuel worship. It weaves together the themes of communion, mission, and social justice. It’s a song of adoration, and by connecting the images of Eucharist and service, it further reminds us that seeing the face of Christ in the Eucharist should enable and direct us to recognize his face in the poor.
