This Might Be the Most Soulful, Sweet Song of Freedom You’ve Ever Heard

Lauren Daigle - published on 08/04/16

"How can it be"

You break my chains. You overcome. You gave Your life to give me mine.

The song by Grammy-Nominated singer Lauren Daigle, which won Song of the Year at the 2015 Dove Awards, exalts the gift given by the Creator to every human being: freedom. Daigle reminds us with her soulful voice that apart from God there is only slavery. “You gave your life to give me mine. You say that I am free,” the song says.

And how can we experience the fullness of this freedom that was freely offered by God? By breaking free from sin. Freedom is a gift, but it is also choice, and a task. To reach it, the first step is to choose to recognize that which is within us, as St. Augustine says, it is the only thing capable of making us free. The second thing is to realize that the pleasures of the world will never fill us. Freedom is true, and where there is not truth, there is not freedom.
