The YouTube channel “Callixtus” — perhaps named in honor of either Pope Callistus or Xanothopoulos Callistus, Patriarch of Constantinople (or even possibly both) — is an impressive collection of sacred music, mostly medieval, including choral works belonging to both Western Christianity and the Eastern tradition.
With hundreds of videos shared since December 2008, and more than 12 million visits, Callixtus is already an essential online reference and a must for choral music lovers. Here, we wanted to share a version of the Kyrie Eleison of the Christmas Mass according to the Roman Rite, from the 6th century.
