JJ Heller’s Christmas album is “a warm mug of hot chocolate for your ears”

JJ Heller - published on 12/01/16

The indie artist’s “Unto Us” mixes a few originals in together with the classics

If you’re looking for something new to add to your Christmas music repertoire this season, we recommend indie country-folk artist JJ Heller’s latest album Unto Us. Heller aptly labels the album “a warm mug of hot chocolate for your ears.” It’s a cozy blend of nostalgia and imagination, with a laid-back acoustic feel.

The artist, whose style is reminiscent of others like Alison Krauss and Jewel, skillfully covers some of your favorite classics (“Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring was particularly inspired) and adds in three new songs of her own too. The biblically-inspired title track of the album  – featured in the video above – was co-written with her husband, singing about Emmanuel who has come “Unto Us.”

All in all, the album is everything we love about JJ Heller wrapped up in a Christmas record you’ll want to listen to all season long. Watch the album trailer below, and pick up the whole album on iTunes.
