This father and daughter perform great sacred music together

J-P Mauro - published on 07/18/17

Music runs in the McCormick family.

Kevin McCormick is a lifelong musician who has studied his craft in the US, Europe, and Asia. He has degrees in guitar performance and English, focusing on poetry. He uses these skills in his compositions, which vary in genre from chamber music to jazz and even experimental rock.

He recognized the talent in his daughter Rachel, who grew up singing along to his guitar, and the duo recorded a Christmas album in 2013. Rachel’s voice is perfectly suited to sacred music and she sings through the difficult track like a pro. It was an excellent choice to have her at the pulpit for the video, since she would be an excellent cantor.

This version of “Ave Maria” was written by Charles Gounod, who set the original text of “Ave Maria” to a new melody and superimposed it over an slightly altered version of Bach’s Prelude No.1 in C major. This is why it is credited to both Bach and Gounod, who lived 137 years apart.
