Christmas in July: Matt Maher’s ‘Glory’

J-P Mauro - published on 07/25/17

A more intimate rendition, performed in a church

Matt Maher released “Glory” as part of a Christmas EP in 2016. Following in the line of other songs like “A Future Not Our Own,” the song is a call to action: Christ has come. Let there be peace, and let it start in me.

This live version was released closer to Christmas and sounds much different from the studio version thanks to the acoustics of the church and the minimal percussion. Leaving the drum set aside in favor of light percussion creates a more intimate atmosphere.

Maher discussed the inspiration for the piece after this live session:

“It’s when we’re willing to let that peace, which surpasses all understanding, permeate out of our lives into everything we do, that we can help … people understand once again that peace, which comes from Jesus, starts in each one of us and extends from what God is doing in us out into our families and our churches and our communities. Hopefully it helps us announce, like the angels, that we don’t have to be afraid.”
