The construction of Norwich Cathedral began in 1096, after a Saxon settlement and two smaller churches were demolished to make room for it. The entire cathedral, including its distinctive Norman Tower, was completed in 1145. Its cloisters are the second largest ones in England, only eclipsed by those of Salisbury Cathedral.
