Thanks to technological innovations in DNA analysis, scientists are getting a clearer picture of how how human beings traveled from Africa 150,000 years ago to the furthest reaches of the rest of the world.

Launched in 2015, the National Geographic Society’s Genographic Project has gathered data from indigenous peoples to map the course of human history. Watch this video, which shows the routes humans traveled over time, and see how all the branches of our family tree can be traced back to their common African origin..
