Actor James Franco has been receiving some attention lately for his new YouTube series called “Philosophy Time.” The episodes are five minutes each and center on Franco and his friend Elliot sitting on a park bench talking to a philosopher. They’ve covered topics such as metaphor, imagination, beauty and abortion.
It is an intriguing idea, though one that has gotten mixed results. Philosophy is a delicate science and requires a precision in language and reason that is easy to fall short of.
The Catholic Church has a great love of philosophy. The Church has always believed that faith and reason — far from being in opposition — both lead us to God, who is Truth. The Church, as always, continues to encourage Catholics to delve deeply into philosophical thought.
