Whether he plays football or baseball, he says his faith impacts "how I pursue life."
While Tim Tebow is still climbing the ranks of minor league baseball, his Christian faith continues to be a strong influence in sports.
Tebow explained to Fox Sports earlier this year the role his Christian faith continues to play in his new venture.
It impacts me daily. It impacts me in how I treat people. How I pursue life, my vantage point. How I interact with people. Hopefully in how I’m a little more patient with people and certain things … And how I treat people, but my faith is something that changes the way I act, the way I live, the way I think, the way I breathe, everything, because it puts things into perspective, especially what matters and that’s something I’m so very grateful for.
He further explained the support he has had from fellow athletes. “Teammates have been so supportive from the major league guys to, all the way down. Everyone has been supportive, especially the guys here.”
Even though he hasn’t been in baseball for very long, his teammates are already looking up to him as a Christian role model. Rightfielder Steven Souza, Jr. explained to the Tampa Bay Times regarding Tebow, “From just watching from afar, his goal is to spread the Gospel, and he’s doing a good job in that … The problem lies when you’re saying one thing and doing the other. He hasn’t done that. He’s saying one thing and living that way, and when that happens, people are curious to why he lives that way.”
Mark Laird, a centerfielder for the Clearwater Threshers, added, “[Tebow] wins the Heisman Trophy, he thanks God. He sticks to his faith … I think he’s a good example of [athletes who have a deeper faith].”
The “Tebow Effect” has been clearly felt in baseball, and while Tebow certainly misses football, he remains passionate about baseball and seeks to be an instrument of God in whatever he does.
