Father Tom met with Pope Francis following his release after being kidnapped by Islamist militants and held for 18 months in Yemen. The news was made public by Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on September 12 when he tweeted “I am happy to inform that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued.”
