Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and other lawmakers were on the way to a retreat in West Virginia
A train carrying Republican congressmen to retreat in West Virginia hit a truck on Wednesday, leaving one person dead, according to press reports. None of the congressional members or staff were injured.
The train hit a large truck that was on the tracks in Crozet Va., northwest of Charlottesville. Among the injured were two members of the train’s crew and two passengers, according to a report in the New York Times.
The group was traveling to the Greenbrier Resort Hotel in West Virginia for their annual retreat.
A tweet from Rep. Roger Marshall’s Twitter account said that the “train hit a garbage truck, they’re asking for doctors on the trains to help.”
A later Tweet said that Congressman Marshall performed CPR on the injured who were in the truck.
House Speaker Paul Ryan was on the train, but was not injured, according to an NBC News report.
