With Independence Day in the U.S. less than a week away, we thought we’d look to the wives of some of America’s most famous presidents for some patriotic pearls of wisdom. Not only did these women offer their love and support to their powerful husbands, they took on the role of setting an example to millions of Americans — and not always in the easiest of circumstances.
Of course, you may not have always agreed with their husbands’ politics or the policies of their administrations, but these women often demonstrated the virtues we admire in a First Lady and a patriot.
