MercyMe is back on top with new single, “Grace Got You”

J-P Mauro - published on 07/13/18

The popular Christian band has enjoyed continued prosperity after successful feature film 'I Can Only Imagine.'
Laugh, ’til your whole side’s hurting
Smile like you just got away with something
Why? ‘Cause you just got away with something
Ever since, ever since grace got you

The year is only half over, but MercyMe has enjoyed a monumental 2018 thus far. First they scored notice through their hit feature film I Can Only Imagine, which left the box office earning $85.3 million, and then they won accolades they were nominated for at the fan-voted K-LOVE Fan Awards, including Artist of the Year. Now, their newest single, “Grace Got You,” is sitting comfortably in the top three on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs, up from the 4th slot last week.

For the song, MercyMe teamed up with Christian hip-hop artist John Reuben, who brought a much different sound to MercyMe’s normal contemporary rock style. The melody is really catchy with a memorable hook. The rhythmic piano accompaniment, which keeps the tune bouncing all the way through, nearly begs to be danced to.

“Grace Got You” has already been streamed 12.6 million times and has been featured in key playlists on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon. Meanwhile, their album I Can Only Imagine – The Very Best Of MercyMe has returned to #1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart in the wake of their cinematic success, I Can Only Imagine. Their newest album, Lifer, which includes “Grace Got You,” is currently at #3 on the same chart.

Earlier this summer, when appearing on FOX & Friends’ All-American Summer Concert Series, the band was surprised when they were presented with RIAA certified triple platinum plaques for their album Almost There, which recently made it to 3 million albums sold. I Can Only Imagine is continuing to find success in DVD format, becoming the most purchased movie in America since its June 5 DVD release.
