Know someone who is sick? Pray this prayer for them

God looks tenderly upon those who intercede for the sick and suffering.

Suffering from an illness isn’t always easy to endure. We all know the experience and it can take its toll on us, changing our mood and outlook on life. That is why when we hear about someone else who is sick, our heart goes out to them and we want to do whatever we can to help alleviate their pain.

In many cases we aren’t able to do anything besides offer our comforting assistance and constant prayers. While sometimes it may appear useless to pray for someone who is sick, God thinks otherwise. His heart looks tenderly upon those who intercede for the sick and suffering, and he often performs a miraculous healing because of the faith he sees in others (see Luke 5:17-26).

While God does not “guarantee” to heal someone because of our prayers, he always receives our prayers and answers them, though not always in the way we expect.

Below is a simple prayer for a sick person that invokes God’s healing power upon a loved one who is in need of our prayers and intercession.

God our Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brother/sister. May all who suffer pain, illness, or disease realize that they have been chosen to be saints and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.Father in heaven, grant N. comfort in his/her suffering. Give him/her courage when afraid, patience when afflicted, hope when dejected, and when alone assure him/her of the prayerful support of your holy people. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
