The World Meeting of Families will begin next week in Dublin, Ireland, starting on August 21, the feast day of Our Lady of Knock. It is the anniversary of her apparition to several people on the night of August 21, 1879.

The apparition is unique in that the Blessed Virgin Mary did not speak a word and was accompanied by St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph. Yet, her message of peace and healing was heard loudly and thousands of pilgrims flock to the shrine every year. The pilgrims come to beg for personal healing as well as healing in their families.

As we prepare to reflect on the beauty of the family, let us pray each day that Mary will help us to heal the many divisions in the family today and to mend our hearts. May we welcome Jesus into our lives just as Mary did with her “Yes” at the Annunciation.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.Give praise to the Father Almighty,To His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord,To the Spirit who lives in our hearts, both now and forever. Amen. Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress, and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find.”Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick, lonely or depressed.Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the Holy Mass. Give me a greater love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death.
