Archbishop Pierre: Those who are most vulnerable are a primary responsibility of the bishops
The bishops are responsible for protecting all, “especially the most vulnerable,” said Bishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States, on August 20, speaking to Vatican Radio Italy after the publication of Pope Francis’ letter on sexual abuse.
While evil cannot be entirely eliminated, the French bishop acknowledged, those responsible for the Church must “educate and accompany” priests to help them truly carry out their mission.
And if a bishop learns of cases of sexual abuse, Pierre continued, he should “act on all levels.” The pastors of dioceses must be particularly attentive to this kind of situation.
