This year’s Nativity scene will feature larger than life sand sculptures.

Here’s an exclusive look at preparations for the Vatican’s Nativity scene, which this year will feature sand sculptures created by artists from all over the world. Aleteia’s own Antoine Mekary was on the scene to bring us these “before” photographs:

Over 700 tons of sand has been shipped to St. Peter’s Square and will be ready for the unveiling and lighting of the Vatican Christmas tree on December 7.

Stay tuned, as Aleteia’s photo team will be on hand to take pictures of the finished product to give you a virtual front-row seat at the unveiling.
