Six months after its release, "Changed" is still on Billboard's Hot 25 Christian Songs.
Let me take the mic, go on and testify
How I was dead and then I came to life
Jordan Feliz released his third studio album, Future, early last year, and his hit song “Changed” is still in the top 25 of Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs. “Changed,” the second single from the album, is a soul-infused pop tune designed to live on in your ear and get you to move your feet.
The instrumentation is light and upbeat, with a melody that slides along the rhythm so naturally it gives the listener a feeling of familiarity. The arrangement has a “renewed” quality to it — similar to the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” or Earth, Wind, an& Fire’s “September” — that will keep it sounding fresh for years to come. Feliz successfully brings together contemporary pop and Christian lyrics to create a wholesome yet hip tune suitable for all ages.
While the music is quite catchy, the real gem is the music video. Feliz does not appear in it, yet his signature hat is the centerpiece of the action. The plot follows his hat, representative of the Christian message, which emits the infectious melody to any who wears it. The hat finds its way onto the heads of people who are having a bad day and immediately turns their attitudes around. The choreography and color scheme make it a real fun watch.
In an interview with CBN, Feliz spoke about the inspiration behind Future:
The message of Future is to tell people that we don’t have to say the words “I got this!” anymore. We live in a world that wants control over everything, but we don’t have it! If we just had faith and trusted that the Lord goes before us and holds our future.
I pray that people leave the record feeling the freedom and joy of salvation! That if they placed every sin, shame, anxiety at the feet of Jesus, gave him your future you will live a life that is changed!
