"Valiant champion of the Faith, assist me in the combat against evil."

St. George was a Roman military officer of the 3rd century, who is well-known around the world for a particular legend connected to his life. He is said to have mounted his horse and killed a dragon with his lance, protecting villagers (and in one story a beautiful maiden).

Many believe the story was meant to represent his ability to conquer sin and temptation, and that the dragon was more of a “demonic force,” than an actual beast. With this in mind, St. George has been known as a powerful intercessor against temptations and can aid a person who is struggling against the powers of evil.

Below is a brief prayer that invokes St. George’s intercession, asking him for help in spiritual warfare.

Faithful servant of God and invincible martyr, St. George; favoredby God with the gift of faith, and inflamed with an ardent love ofChrist, thou didst fight valiantly against the dragon of pride, falsehood, and deceit. Neither pain nor torture, sword nor deathcould part thee from the love of Christ. I fervently implore theefor the sake of this love to help me by thy intercession toovercome the temptations that surround me, and to bear bravely thetrials that oppress me, so that I may patiently carry the crosswhich is placed upon me; and let neither distress nor difficultiesseparate me from the love of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Valiantchampion of the Faith, assist me in the combat against evil, thatI may win the crown promised to them that persevere unto the end.
