Pray boldly: St. Joseph Novena in his Jubilee year – Day 6

SAINT JOSEPH

Juspe de Ribera| Brooklyn Museum | PD

Kathleen N. Hattrup - published on 03/15/21

Come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty ...

In this year of St. Joseph, let us give special attention to the novena in preparation for his feast. We pray boldly, because as Padre Pio says:

I do not remember having asked anything from St. Joseph, without having obtained it readily.

Today, we consider St. Joseph as “hope of the sick.”

Just as God told Joseph: “Son of David, do not be afraid!” (Mt 1:20), so he seems to tell us: “Do not be afraid!” We need to set aside all anger and disappointment, and to embrace the way things are, even when they do not turn out as we wish. Not with mere resignation but with hope and courage. In this way, we become open to a deeper meaning. Our lives can be miraculously reborn if we find the courage to live them in accordance with the Gospel. It does not matter if everything seems to have gone wrong or some things can no longer be fixed. God can make flowers spring up from stony ground. Even if our heart condemns us, “God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything” (1Jn 3:20).

~ Pope Francis in Patris Corde.

Novena prayers

The prayer Pope Francis prays:

Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, whose power makes the impossible possible, come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty. Take under your protection the serious and troubling situations that I commend to you, that they may have a happy outcome.
My beloved father, all my trust is in you. Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain, and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary, show me that your goodness is as great as your power. Amen.
List your intentions here.

Another special prayer:

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires.
O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
O St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him close in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.
