The image is taken from a mosaic in the Basilica in Washington, DC.

In this, the Year of St. Joseph, one of the most beautiful prayer cards dedicated to St. Joseph can be found at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

Known as “America’s Catholic Church, the Basilica of the National Shrine celebrated its centennial last year, 100 years after its foundation stone was laid in 1920.

Built in the style of the great cathedrals of Europe, the Basilica is home to great works of sacred art. Among these is a magnificent collection of mosaic artistry, which adorns 93,845 feet of the Basilica’s chapels, domes and interior walls.

In the East Apse, an exquisite mosaic of “St. Joseph, Defender of the Church and Patron of Workers,” shares the space with a mosaic of the Virgin Mary. Both works were completed by the artist Austin Purvis, Jr., in 1967.

So, to draw closer to the holy saint, in this, the Year of St. Joseph, you can now download a prayer card featuring the mosaic of St. Joseph found in the National Shrine.

Print one out today, and call on the “watchful guardian of the Holy Family” for protection in guidance.
