Grammy Award winner Jose Feliciano will be the recipient of this year’s Adelia Award. This award, presented by the St. Pio Foundation, honors the dedicated efforts of individuals who exhibit selflessness and outstanding contributions to those in need. Feliciano will be present to accept the laurels at a September 18 award ceremony.

Jose Feliciano will add the Adelia Award to a long list of accolades, including seven Grammy Awards and induction into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame. The singer/songwriter joins a prestigious list of previous Adelia Award recipients, such as actors Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna. Other Adelia Award winners include Senator Rick Santorum, Cardinal Edwin F. O’Brien, and Bishop Samuel J. Aquila.

The Adelia Award

The Saint Pio Foundation is a non-profit charity organization dedicated to the promotion of the spiritual charism of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Each year, they bestow the Adelia Award on individuals who exhibit St. Padre Pio’s faith model and have taken special effort to promote the foundation. On their website, they explain the name of the award:

The “Adelia” takes its name from Adelia Maria McAlpin Pyle, who was one of the closest friends of Padre Pio. Adelia, or “Mary” as she was better known, converted to Catholicism and used her wealth to build a new church, a monastery, and a seminary in Pietrelcina.

Christmas Challenge

The award ceremony, taking place at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, will feature a talk from Bishop Frank Caggiano of the Diocese of Bridgeport. Those in attendance will also be treated to a live performance from Phantom of the Opera star Franc D’Ambrosio. D’Ambrosio himself was honored with the Adelia Award in 2019.

The Saint Pio Foundation invites all who wish to attend to purchase tickets to the event. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards a holiday charity initiative from the Saint Pio Foundation. At the ceremony they will be kicking off a “Christmas Challenge” food drive. The goal of the fundraiser will be to collect and distribute 10,000 boxes of food to needy families in the Christmas season.

The drive is nationwide and will feed families in New York, Connecticut, Illinois, California, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.. Visit The Saint Pio Foundation to learn more about how to support the “Christmas Challenge.”
