Pope Francis' official Twitter page announced the theme for the 2nd World Day for Grandparents and Elderly.

The Pope created this day, which falls on a Sunday near the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anna, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus.

He has followed up the announcement with two more tweets:

Respect and care for the elderly has been one of the principle themes of Francis' pontificate.

He has blasted euthanasia as both a failure of care and a reduction of persons to dollars, while at the same time emphasizing that the elderly are the roots and wisdom of a society, and without respect for them, the society is failing.
