Morning prayer to be defended by God’s divine power

When we rise in the morning, it is most appropriate to begin our day in prayer, asking for God’s divine protection.

Often we are tempted throughout the day, and so it is best if we do a little preemptive planning and ask for God’s help in fending off what the world, flesh and the devil have in store for us.

Here is a prayer from the Roman Breviary that can be prayed each morning to invoke God’s powerful assistance.

Lord, God Almighty,
you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day.
Defend us today by your mighty power,
that we may not fall into any sin,
but that all our words may so
proceed and all our thoughts and actions be so directed,
as to be always just in your sight.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
