Some of these martyrs were also children. We ask them to pray for consolation for their countrymen.

As more information is released about the tragic shooting- and knifing-spree at a preschool in Thailand, we turn to the martyrs of Songkhon to beseech their intercession.

At least 34 people were killed, nearly two dozen of them children, in a knife and gun attack in Utthai Sawan, at a preschool. The attacker was a former policeman who also killed himself and his family.

Some of the victims were as young as two and killed as they slept.

Saints and angels, pray for us

The martyrs of Songkhon are seven people who were killed in December 1940 by local police forces. Pope John Paul II beatified them in 1989. Three of the martyrs were just teenagers.

Dear martyrs and all saints, approach the Lord of Mercy to beseech mercy for us in this valley of tears. Give comfort to the families who have lost their little ones. Heal those who have witnessed such violence. Protect us from the evils of drugs and all torments and wiles of the devil. Help those who are ill in spirit and soul. Build in our societies a culture of help and healing, of solidarity and support. Amen.
