Dominicans celebrate 3 anniversaries of St. Thomas Aquinas’ life

The anniversaries to be celebrated will focus on Aquinas' birth, death and canonization.

The next three years will mark three major anniversaries of the birth, death and canonization of St. Thomas Aquinas.

In particular the Dominicans in Toulouse, France, where Aquinas is buried, will be celebrating these anniversaries with various events.

2023 – 700 Year Anniversary of Canonization

St. Thomas Aquinas was canonized on July 18, 1323, by Pope John XXII.

2024 – 750 Year Anniversary of Death

The “Angelic Doctor” died on March 7, 1274, and 2024 will mark 750 years since his death.

2025 – 800 Year Anniversary of Birth

The final anniversary to be celebrated will be Aquinas’ birth. It is not certain the exact date of Aquinas’ birth, but he was born in 1225.

Over the next 3 years various celebrations will occur around the world in Dominican houses and universities, honoring one of the most influential Dominican saints in history.
