Christian singer Lisa Kimmey, formerly of the award winning group Out of Eden, has released her first single, “Same God,” since rebranding herself as Lisa Nicole. The song, released by DARE Records, is a wonderful junction between Gospel and R&B, with faithful lyrics and a sweetly sung melody.

“Same God” is a lovely modern hymn that employs compelling chord changes to create an emotional prayer. With lyrics steeped in scriptural references, the song calls on God for help in troubling times. The gentle intro expertly builds until a gospel choir erupts into song. This thrilling moment had us hooked on Nicole’s excellent brand of Christian music.

Then, the chorus transitions to a section that’s practically chanted, as they repeat Nicole’s lines with growing intensity. In a press release, DARE Records described the chorus as a “war cry,” but to us it sounded more like a jubilant congregation. The way the chorus continues to ascend as they move through this section creates a powerful atmosphere of faith. Then suddenly all of these strong musical elements fall away for Nicole’s tenderly sung outro.

The song is a hit in the making and stands as a fantastic showing for her first release under her new name. While Nicole’s work with Out of Eden was always considered Gospel/R&B, it also tended towards a pop aesthetic. With “Same God,” Nicole shows a departure from what is hip, towards a purely religious tone that is steeped in contemplative themes.

Nicole’s latest single was just released on January 26, but it has not received nearly the attention that it deserves. With fewer than 100 views, now is the best time to follow Lisa Nicole and get in on the ground floor of this promising Christian contemporary act. Be sure to follow Lisa Nicole on YouTube and Instagram to keep up with all of her upcoming releases.
