The Holy Father has been working from the hospital, where he was admitted on Wednesday afternoon with a respiratory infection.

The director of the Vatican press office gave this report about Pope Francis this afternoon, March 31:

Yesterday passed well, with normal clinical development. In the evening Pope Francis had dinner — pizza — together with those assisting him during these days of his hospital stay: with the Holy Father were the doctors, nurses, assistants and Gendarmerie personnel.

This morning after having breakfast, he read some newspapers and resumed work.

His Holiness is expected to return to Casa Santa Marta tomorrow, contingent upon the outcome of the results of the last examinations this morning.

Pope Francis will be home just in time for the intense liturgical schedules of Holy Week. The Vatican press office said of the Palm Sunday Mass that the Pope “would be present.”

Pope Francis was scheduled to celebrate the Palm Sunday Mass, but often in the last year, due to his knee pain, he has delegated the celebration of a public Mass to a cardinal, while he has stayed in a special place at the front, and delivered the homily.

The Mass for Palm Sunday is scheduled to be held in St. Peter’s Square.
