Pope Francis had a "brief private meeting" with the Vice President of the United States of America, James David Vance, the Holy See Press Office reported on April 20, 2025.
The Holy Father and the US vice president exchanged Easter greetings.
The meeting, which took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Pope's residence in the Vatican, lasted "a few minutes" and was an opportunity to "exchange Easter greetings," the statement said.
Vance was greeted on the steps by Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, regent of the Prefecture of the Pontifical Household. After they spoke briefly, the Pope gave Vance a rosary and chocolates for his children. They also took pictures together.
President Donald Trump's right-hand man, who is visiting Rome these days, also met Saturday with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin – the Vatican's second-in-command – and participated in the Good Friday liturgy in St. Peter's Basilica.
