Father Alejandro Moral, the current prior general of the Augustinian order, turns 70 today.

After celebrating the Mass of the Jubilee for Families, Pope Francis went to the International College of St. Monica, located near the Vatican, to attend a lunch organized for the birthday of the Prior General of the Order of St. Augustine, Father Alejandro Moral, who turns 70 on June 1, 2025.

A long friendship links the Spanish religious leader to Pope Leo XIV, who was his predecessor at the head of the Order. The then Father Robert Francis Prevos was Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine for two terms, from 2001 to 2013.

On Tuesday, May 14, Pope Leo XIV returned to the Augustinian monastery where he lived for several years -- from 2001 to 2013, while serving as Prior General. It is very near the Vatican, and the Pope was able to spend a few hours with his confreres.

The Pope this afternoon returns to the Vatican to watch the Giro d'Italia cyclists pass through the world's smallest state before setting off on the final stage of the race, which began in Tirana, Albania, on May 9.
