In the family, in our societies, and in international relations, we can only be peacemakers if our own hearts are at peace, observed Pope Leo at end of Pentecost Mass.

"Only a peaceful heart can spread peace in the family, society, and international relations," said Leo XIV at the end of Pentecost Mass, celebrated on June 8, 2025, in St. Peter's Square. The pontiff also addressed a message of encouragement to students who in Europe are preparing for their end-of-year exams.

At the end of Mass, just before singing the Marian prayer Regina Caeli — which replaces the Angelus during Eastertide — the Pope issued a new appeal for peace, without mentioning any particular conflict. He prayed that the "Spirit of the risen Christ open paths of reconciliation wherever there is war; may he enlighten those who govern and give them the courage to make gestures of de-escalation and dialogue."

Addressing the members of Church movements present in large numbers in St. Peter's Square — some 80,000 people according to the authorities — who were concluding their Jubilee on Sunday, Leo XIV urged them to return home in the strength of the Holy Spirit.
