With the recent election of Pope Leo XIV, the Church has entered a new chapter — one already marked by compassion, unity, and a desire to walk with the suffering. And now, as the annual Peter’s Pence collection approaches, Catholics around the world are invited to join the Holy Father in his mission of mercy.

Peter’s Pence is more than a simple offering. It’s a beautiful act of solidarity with the Pope and his charitable outreach. Traditionally taken around the feast of Sts. Peter Paul (June 29), the collection helps fund the Pope’s initiatives, especially those serving the poor, victims of war and natural disasters, and people on the margins of society.

Over the years, Peter’s Pence has supported a wide range of urgent, life‑changing projects — like providing shelter for earthquake survivors in Turkey, delivering emergency food supplies in South Sudan, and contributing to rebuilding efforts in Beirut after the devastating 2020 explosion. It also funds the Holy See’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace, justice, and human dignity.

Beyond its practical impact, Peter’s Pence carries profound symbolic significance. As the official Peter’s Pence website reminds us: The collection is “a tangible sign of communion with [the Pope], as Peter’s Successor, and also of attention to the needs of the most disadvantaged."

In other words, every gift — no matter how small — is a personal “yes” to walking with the Holy Father and those he serves.

A special meaning for 2025

This year, giving to Peter’s Pence feels especially meaningful. Just weeks into his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV has clearly set his papacy on the path of charity and unity. In his inaugural homily, he proclaimed:

“This is the hour for love — the love of God that makes us brothers and sisters. Let us build a Church with arms open to the world.”

Donating to Peter’s Pence is one practical yet profound way to help Pope Leo XIV bring this vision to life. It allows everyday Catholics to take part in his first steps — helping build shelters, feed the hungry, support refugees and promote peace in troubled regions.
