A new full-color comic book, Sacred Call: Heroic Stories of the Army Chaplain Corps, brings to life the remarkable service of U.S. Army chaplains across 250 years of military history. Released in partnership with Voyage Comics, the graphic novel-style publication highlights the powerful witness of men and women who answered a sacred call to serve soldiers in times of war and peace.

From the Revolutionary War to today’s modern conflicts, Army chaplains have stood beside troops, offering prayer, counseling, and comfort — often under fire.

The Corps was officially established on July 29, 1775, with George Washington’s support and the approval of the Continental Congress. Since then, thousands have served as spiritual lifelines on the front lines, many making the ultimate sacrifice.

The comic traces this legacy through vivid illustrations and action-driven storytelling, capturing moments of courage, compassion, and deep faith. These chaplains come from diverse religious backgrounds, united by a shared mission: to care for the lives of those enrolled in the Army. As the book shows, their ministry goes beyond denomination — supporting soldiers of all beliefs, often in moments of life and death.

Faith is a force

The project was brought to life by Voyage Comics, a publishing company founded in 2018 by Aleteia writer Philip Kosloski. Known blending faith and pop culture, Voyage Comics has made a name for itself with inspiring stories and professional artwork. Their creative team includes illustrators and writers who’ve worked with Marvel and DC, now bringing that same quality to stories of real-life heroes.

While Sacred Call draws inspiration from history, its message is strikingly current: Faith remains an essential force in the lives of those who serve.

By spotlighting chaplains who guided soldiers through fear, trauma, and loss, the comic reminds readers — especially younger audiences — of the enduring importance of spiritual care in the military.

The comic book is available as a free download through the U.S. Army’s website and is part of a wider initiative to honor the Chaplain Corps’ 250th anniversary. Readers can find it here and share it widely.

As the U.S. Army commemorates this milestone, Sacred Call offers a fresh and compelling way to discover the unsung heroes whose battlefield stories are not just about courage, but about grace under pressure.
