María and Alejandro are a Mexican couple with five young children. They are raising their children in the Catholic faith, integrating religion in their daily lives through activities such as celebrations based on the liturgical calendar, costumes, prayers, and games.
Discovering Carlo Acutis
This inspired their son Alejandro ("Alex"), who heard the story of Carlo Acutis for the first time on All Saints' Day. He identified deeply with Carlo: The saint was a boy like him, with a camera, fond of video games, technology, and mischief.
That day, he decided to dress up as Carlo. Later, he placed a small backpack on the stairs, saying, “I'm ready! I've packed my bags in case God calls me to heaven.”
The need for a miracle
The family's life took an unexpected turn when the father became seriously ill: He was diagnosed with cancer, with severe pneumonia caused by a tumor.
Amid the uncertainty, a family friend lent them a relic of Carlo Acutis. Alex took it in his hands, contemplating it, and asked to be left alone to pray. No one knows what he said to Carlo, but his only wish was that his father not suffer.
Before the surgery, they brought the relic and placed it on his father's chest, entrusting him with faith to Carlo's intercession.
An answer to prayer
The next day, the doctors were surprised to find that the inflammation had unexpectedly disappeared. The tumor was still there, but the pain and pneumonia had disappeared.
“That night while I was sleeping, I felt an intense heat in my chest, right where they had placed the relic,” Alejandro says.
He recovered from the surgery surprisingly well. The family saw it as a clear sign that the little boy's prayer had been heard. Alex, knowing that his father was no longer in pain, just smiled.
A pilgrimage of thanks
Months after the surgery, Alejandro and his wife traveled to Rome and then to Assisi, where the tomb of Carlo Acutis rests. There they realized that their son should also be there giving thanks.
In 2025, Alejandro and his son organized a trip to be at the canonization of Carlo Acutis, but it had to be postponed due to the death of Pope Francis. Even so, they traveled to Assisi to visit Carlo Acutis' tomb, where they fulfilled the dream of seeing his relics and thanking God for the father's recovery.
At the foot of Carlo's tomb, the little boy was able to pray and meet the saint who had awakened in his heart the desire for holiness and love for God.
