Bishop-elect Andres "Andy" C. Ligot was born in the Philippines and was incardinated in the Diocese of San Jose, California, in 2004.

Rev. Andres "Andy" C. Ligot was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop of San Jose, California, on August 29, 2025. The Philippines-born priest was incardinated into the Diocese of San Jose 21 years ago, in 2004.

Ligot was born on November 30, 1965, in Laog City, Philippines, said a press release from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Laog, Philippines, on June 14, 1992.

In 1999, he received a doctorate in canon law; the same year he was given permission from his bishop in the Philippines to move to California.

On March 30, 2004, he was incardinated as a priest in the Diocese of San Jose.

“Today we rejoice with gratitude for Bishop-elect Ligot’s ‘yes’ to the Lord and to the Church in Silicon Valley,” said Bishop Oscar Cantú in a statement published by the diocese. “His priestly heart, pastoral experience, and steady leadership will bless our parishes, schools, and ministries. I invite the faithful to keep him in prayer as he prepares for episcopal ordination.”

“I am humbled by the Holy Father’s trust and by Bishop Cantú’s support,” said Bishop-elect Ligot in a statement released by the diocese.

“I renew my promise to serve Christ and His people with joy — especially those most in need," he said, asking people to "Please pray for me, that I may be a faithful servant and a good shepherd in our beautifully diverse Church.”

While in California, Ligot served as a chaplain at the Veterans Medical Center in San Francisco, in the tribunal for the Diocese of San Jose, and as a visiting priest at Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park, a city in the Bay Area.

After officially joining the Diocese of San Jose, Ligot has served as a parochial vicar and pastor at parishes in the diocese, as well as the judicial vicar for the Diocese.

Since 2021, Ligot has served as pastor of St. Elizabeth of Portugal Parish. In 2023, he was named the vicar general and chancellor of the Diocese of San Jose.

He is fluent in Tagalog, Ilocano, Spanish, and English, noted the USCCB.
