The Holy Father noted that September 1 is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and for Catholics, this is our 10th World Day for this intention.

Speaking about our role as stewards of God's creation, Pope Leo is inviting the faithful to "renew our commitment not to ruin his gift but to care for our common home."

After praying the midday Angelus this August 31, he noted that tomorrow, September 1, is the 10th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

When Pope Francis established the day in 2015, he joined with the celebration already on the Orthodox calendar. For Eastern Christians, the day coincides with the beginning of the liturgical year, making it a fitting day to pray for creation.

Here's what Pope Leo said:

Tomorrow, September 1, is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Ten years ago, in harmony with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, Pope Francis established this Day for the Catholic Church.

This is more important and urgent than ever, and this year’s theme is “Seeds of Peace and Hope.” Together with all Christians, we celebrate it throughout this “Season of Creation,” which lasts until October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.

In the spirit of the Canticle of Brother Sun, which he composed 800 years ago, we praise God and renew our commitment not to ruin his gift but to care for our common home.
