While we think of May as “Mary’s month,” October is a special month of Mary, too. This month is dedicated to the Holy Rosary.
Our Lady of the Rosary (also “Our Lady of Victory”) is honored on October 7. This special occasion marks an incredible underdog victory at the Battle of Lepanto. It’s a hopeful reminder that Mary will pray for us to be victorious in our own struggles, especially in our struggle against sin and our efforts to become like Christ.
Praying the Rosary is a wonderful way to honor her this month and especially this feast day. The Rosary is a powerful spiritual weapon and has been shown to bring peace and improve mental health in those who pray it.
In honor of Our Lady, the Rosary, and victory over sin, here are 3 fun and friend-filled ways to celebrate this beautiful feast day.
1Plan a “Rosary and Rosé” gathering
All credit goes to Kristen Combo on Instagram, who shared this idea on her account. Here’s how she described it:
✨This might be the most Catholic girls’ night ever… and I’m obsessed.✨
If you’re looking for a beautiful way to honor Our Lady AND gather your girlfriends—host a Rosé & Rosary Night on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption! 💗🍷
✔️ Invite your friends
✔️ Ask everyone to wear pink
✔️ Bring a pink food or drink to share (potluck-style!)
✔️ Pray the Rosary together—bonus if you include praise + worship!
It’s simple, low-maintenance, and leaves a lasting impact.
This year, we’re adding something extra special:
➡️ A Marian Consecration starting July 13, so we finish on the feast day.
➡️ A permanent jewelry artist offering consecration bracelets!
You can visit her Instagram account for a free invitation template to make it easy. And of course, many other Marian feast days would work for this event. Our Lady of the Rosary sounds like the perfect occasion for this very cute idea!
2Organize a sunrise Rosary walk
We love a good ladies’ night, but for the fitness girlies amongst us, try getting the crew together for a 6 a.m. Rosary walk at a local park.
My own story is that I organized sunrise Rosary walks every week or two this past summer and my friends absolutely loved it. We shared our intentions and prayed for each other, then enjoyed a walk and good conversation.
This event checks all the “feel great” boxes: morning sunlight, friendship and community, prayer, and exercise! It’s an amazing way to start your day that I highly recommend.
3Plan a Rosary potluck for your parish
I have to give the credit to the amazing moms’ group at my parish, because this was not my idea. My parish does a “Rosary potluck” every month and it is just such a delight.
The kids love playing with their friends and taking turns leading the decades of the Rosary, the parents all bring food and enjoy hanging out, and it’s a great way to involve the whole family in praying and building community at your local church.
Need a few more ideas? We love Kendra Tierney’s suggestion to let each kid make a rosary out of chocolate chips and M&Ms. And if you’d like a less social way to celebrate today, you might read a Marian book or source a lovely image of Mary for your home.
Happy feast of Our Lady of the Rosary!
