The Vatican Publishing House and Order of Saint Augustine teamed up to publish a new book of Pope Leo XIV's writings from his time as prior general of the order.

A book containing the writings of Pope Leo XIV's time as the prior general of the Augustinian Order will be published in spring 2026, the Order of Saint Augustine and the Vatican Publishing House announced on Wednesday, October 15. The announcement was made at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

“We are very pleased to take part in the Frankfurt Book Fair by presenting to publishers worldwide this unpublished book by Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A. — now Pope Leo XIV,” said Lorenzo Fazzini, editorial director of the Vatican Publishing House in comments published by Vatican News.

“This text will allow readers to discover the writings from the period when the Pope was an Augustinian religious and the superior of his Order," said Fazzini. "It is a volume eagerly awaited by readers across the world.”

The book, titled Free under Grace: Writings and Meditations 2001-2013, is a collection of Pope Leo XIV's writings during those years. In 2001, Pope Leo XIV — then known as Fr. Robert Prevost, O.S.A. — was elected to the first of his two consecutive six-year terms leading the Order of Saint Augustine.

The writings in the book will be "an overview of very important themes," said Fr. Joseph Lawrence Farrell, O.S.A., the current prior general of the order. They include homilies, reflections, meditations, and addresses from the then-Fr. Prevost.

“This book, which brings together many of the communications of then-Prior General Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., provides an overview of some of the key themes he developed during his years as head of the Order of Saint Augustine," said Farrell.

Free under Grace: Writings and Meditations 2001-2013 will be published in Italian.
