With a third day of conflict, already many are dead and thousands are displaced from the two countries.
Pope Leo said this December 10 that he is "deeply saddened" that violent conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has resurged.
The two countries have fallen back into an exchange of fire in the last few days, resulting in at least 10 deaths: 7 on the Cambodia side, and 3 from Thailand.
Pope Leo mentioned the situation at the end of today's general audience:
I am deeply saddened by the news of the renewed conflict along the border between Thailand and Cambodia, which has claimed civilian lives and forced thousands of people to flee their homes.
I express my closeness in prayer to these dear peoples, and I call on the parties to immediately cease fire and resume dialogue.
The tension between these two countries escalated in July, and then intense fighting followed for a few days, leaving scores of civilians and soldiers dead.
