In a brief but reverent moment, Chris Pratt shows us how faith can move even the most famous hearts.

When Chris Pratt shared a photo of himself shaking hands with Pope Leo XIV, the caption was short and simple:

“What an extraordinary honor Pope Leo XIV. Thank you for having me.”

And yet that brief message felt weighty — not just because the actor was standing in the Apostolic Palace, but because it’s rare to see a Hollywood star so publicly awed by an encounter with something sacred.

The visit came ahead of the release of The Tomb of Peter, a new documentary hosted by Pratt that explores the mystery, history, and faith behind what many believe to be the final resting place of St. Peter.

Produced by Vatican Media, the Fabric of St. Peter, and AF Films, the film will invite viewers on a journey deep beneath St. Peter’s Basilica, into the ancient necropolis where — after centuries of tradition and modern discovery — Peter’s tomb is said to rest.

In fact, in 1968, after much research, Pope Paul VI announced that St Peter's bones had been found:

“The relics of Peter have been identified in a way that we can consider convincing… We have reason to believe that the few, but sacrosanct, mortal remains of the Prince of the Apostles have been found.”

In a Vatican News interview, Pratt shared his feelings about the project, stating: “It is an extraordinary honor to partner with Pope Leo and the Vatican on this project. St. Peter’s story is foundational to the Christian faith, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust and access granted to help bring his legacy to the screen.”

In the film he guides viewers not just through physical spaces, but through the story of Peter — the apostle, the first pope, the man whose faith and flaws speak to all of us.

Time for quiet reverence

Pratt, whose career has included superhero stunts and comedic timing, stood in this space of marble and tradition with quiet reverence — not in character, not for laughs, but fully present. But as you can see by the star's Instagram post, the photos from the visit show, this wasn’t just a work trip. He seems to have managed a bit of sight-seeing, while also hanging out with the Swiss Guard -- well, he is a Guardian of the Galaxy after all!

And maybe that’s why his post has struck such a chord: It’s not every day that someone who fills cinemas around the world pauses to stand in the presence of mystery, and share his feelings with the rest of the world.

However, Pratt has long spoken about the role of faith in his personal life (his wife and children are all practicing Catholics), and he has been involved in faith projects like Hallow, taking part in prayer challenges. But there’s something profoundly human about moments like these — where work and wonder meet, and even a global celebrity finds himself moved by history, beauty, and belief.

For millions of fans who admire Pratt not just for his talent but his groundedness, the images from his Vatican visit offer more than a behind-the-scenes look at a film. They’re a gentle reminder: that faith still matters, that reverence still stirs the soul, and that it’s okay to be a little overwhelmed by something holy.

As we move toward Christmas — a season of wonder, humility, and hope — it’s good to be reminded that sacredness doesn’t need to shout. Sometimes it just needs someone willing to pause, to notice, and to say: “Thank you.”
