Bible in a Year, the smash-hit podcast hosted by Fr. Mike Schmitz, has been downloaded nearly one billion times, said a press release from Ascension, as it approaches the fifth anniversary of its launch.
“I get quite emotional,” said Fr. Schmitz in the release. “I never imagined in my entire life that I would get the chance to read the Bible with and to so many people. Hearing how God’s Word has transformed people’s lives blows me away. This is God’s work; I just got to be the narrator.”
Bible in a Year is the top religious podcast of all time. It has topped not only Apple Podcasts' religious charts, but also the overall podcast charts.
“God’s Word is inexhaustible,” said Fr. Schmitz. “There’s always more. When you finish, press play again. God’s Word is alive, and He has something for you.”
The priest's words echo Vatican II's declaration on Scripture, Dei Verbum, and the description of God's Word from the Book of Hebrews.

With Bible in a Year about to begin its fifth season, Ascension announced new special bonus commentary from Fr. Schmitz, as well as video interviews with Catholic thinkers and influencers.
Days one through five of the upcoming Bible in a Year season will have "fresh insights into the 'Early World' readings" as well as answers to questions that have come up year after year, said Ascension.
There will also be "exclusive video conversations about Scripture and faith" between Schmitz and "special guests." These guests include Jonathan Roumie from The Chosen, Jeff Cavins, and Dr. Arthur Brooks. These videos are available on the Ascension Presents YouTube channel.
