Sales of the Bible reached a two-decade high in 2025 for the United States and the United Kingdom, said the latest report from Circana BookScan.

The Bible had its best-selling year in 2025 in more than two decades in both the United States and United Kingdom, said figures compiled by Circana BookScan, as the number of Bibles sold continues the upward trend that began in 2021.

In the United States, there were 19 million Bibles sold in 2025, a figure that is an increase of 12% from 2024 and is double the number of Bibles sold in 2019, said Brenna Conner, a director at Circana.

The top-selling translations of the Bible in the United States were The Invitation New Testament, which is published by B&H, and The Action Bible: God's Redemptive Story.

The Action Bible: God's Redemptive Story is a graphic novel for children that was written by Sergio Cariello.

"The greater interest in religious content in the U.S. reflects a bigger search for hope and community," Connor told Publishers Weekly, "and suggests that consumers are increasingly turning to faith-based resources as anchors of stability and sources of comfort during uncertain times."

An increased number of Bibles sold in the United States tracks with reports from several dioceses that there have been record numbers of participants in OCIA in recent years.

Sales of the Bible increased dramatically in 2025.

In the United Kingdom, Bible sales have grown 134% since 2008, the first year the Christian publisher SPCK tracked sales, said Publishers Weekly. In the United Kingdom, the top-selling Bible was the ESV Bible by the publisher Crossway.

SPCK CEO Sam Richardson told Publishers Weekly that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with "the rise of AI, and a growing mental health crisis" are causing people to turn to their Bibles.

"The significant and sustained upward trend in Bible sales suggests that more and more people are investigating the Christian faith themselves and seeking to draw their own conclusions about its truth," said Richardson.

The trend does not appear to be ending anytime soon. HarperCollins Christian Publishing CEO Mark Schoenwald told Publishers Weekly that the 2025-2026 fiscal year is shaping up to be big for "all formats, from kids' Bibles to pew Bibles to complex study Bibles."

"We just surpassed 10 million units of the NIV Study Bible," he said. "What that tells me is people are not just buying Bibles, but they're actually trying to read them and understand them and then apply them to their lives."

Bible popular in other formats too

People were doing more than just reading their Bibles in 2025. The podcast Bible in a Year, hosted by Fr. Mike Schmitz, neared its billionth download as it finished its fourth season.

Since The Bible in a Year launched in 2021, it has stayed in the Top 40 of Apple Podcasts' charts, and is the top Religion and Spirituality podcast.

About half a million people download The Bible in a Year's episodes each day, said a release from Ascension Press.
